Palm Drum (Double) - United States
The Palm Drum measures 8" x 16". It has a closed bottom so that all of the sound comes out of the spout. The spout measures about 3" across its opening, which is on the same plane with the drum head. Playing technique involves sliding the palm of your hand over the opening of the portal to get glissando effects and fixed pitches. This drum should be tuned very high so that the lower tones are audible when the opening of the sound portal is covered. The drum has a sonority similar to a djembe. It comes in a variety of glazed finishes.Similar to the American Percussion Palm Drum with it's open spout, the Double Palm Drum adds a second spout with a calf skin head. The sound emanates from the open spout, giving the player wider tonal possibilities and variety.
